Fire!

The rubbish chute of the block opposite mine recently caught fire. Not one, but twice.

The 1st time was at night. the alarm went off.. and like most bo chap singaporeans, we ignored it. until when i heard the siren from the fire truck. only then did we realise that the rubbish chute from the block opposite mine caught fire!

prob coz it happened at night, we couldnt really see the smoke or the extent of the fire. and after some time, the fire was put out and the firemen left.

and guess who had to who stay behind to clear the watery mess? the poor bangaladesh workers...

fire #1

A few days later... the rubbish chute caught fire again!!
and this time, it happened in the day. there was a big commotion prob cos people could really see the extent of the fire.

My gosh! it was really quite scary!

U think no fire? no..... the smoke is all trapped in the chute.... see the roof!!

see how the walls have turned black coz of the soot? scary huh... :(

I hope they catch the arsonist soon!

Happy New Year!

This year was indeed a special one.. the 1st time I spent it with shengwang as his wife. haha.. scary the sound of the word 'wife'. Nevertheless.. it was great!

we had our usual steamboat.. the only difference was.. we had it in the comfort of our own home! after food, we played Wii (courtesy of SW's friends for our ROM) and at around 1030pm, we decided to join in the crowd for the countdown to 2008!

taking dad's suggestion, we decided that we wanted to watch the fireworks on the Sheares Bridge instead and to beat the traffic, we want to travel on the direction away from Bedok when the clock strikes 12.

and so we planned our getaway route. haha...

we reached east coast park at around 1115pm and we chatted while we waited.. haha.. apparently, it's not a secret to wait around there at that time.. there were many many many cars there as well.. haha... and at around 1150pm, all the cars streamed out of the carpark and onto the expressway! haha...

notice i used the word 'streamed'? haha... it's seriously DEAD SLOW. most cars were travelling at most 10km/h~ and they only gained some speed if the siren from the TPs could be heard. haha...
SO exciting!

That's us stopping along the road divider!

And so we slowly drove and stopped along the way up the expressway... and when we saw the 1st spark of fireworks, we knew it was midnight already!Sounds of car horns could be heard everywhere along the expressway! So cooL!!! pple were juz jamming their horns to welcome the new year!!

And the fireworks were great!

Look at the speed at which we're travelling at!!!
3km/h!
And the 1st bravest & coolest thing I did this 2008 was.... and i'm proud to say....

I shouted "HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!" to the traffic policeman that we drove past at about 3km/h!!!!! And he greeted me back loudly too!

haha... so happy!

And after 8 minutes of slow driving on the usually 90-100km/h road, the fireworks died down and we picked up the speed and drove off! haha... so cool not to be stuck in the jam like the cars on the opposite side of the road.. :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

my special day... 23 Dec 2007

After months of preparation.. the day was finally here..
with my ROM dress, my bouquet of flowers, my hairdo and my attempts to try to keep my nails long... here are some pictures of the special day.. :)

The silver ribbon which I managed to get.. :)

The bouquet of pink and white roses (with some feathers too!)

The hairdo Nancy did for me..
she insisted on the pretty white roses to go with the garden theme..

My nearly impossible to grow long nails...
(almost all that grown was chipped off after the filing by the manicurist)

Sis and my 10 long nicely painted toes~
10 + 10 = 20 toes!

The view of the gardens..

The beautiful restaurant that had the view of the orchid garden..

The gazebo that we got married in...
luckily it didn't rain till around 4+
(thank you all who helped me pray for the sun ^.^)

Our photographer for the day.. Mr Tom Shen

With our vows..

We are married!

Our little potted plant (wedding favours courtesy of MOG)
bloomed 1 cute purple flower! Can you spot it?

p/s: Thanks for the great presents you all got for us!
The Wii games, the Precious Moments figurines, the gorgeous photo frame, the Lee Hwa pearl pendant, the limestone couple figurine from Fossil, the rice cooker (ROM cum housewarming gift) and the angbaos... Thank you all for your love and well wishes.. :) We truly appreciate it!

cupcakes!

This is my mum's 1st attempt and definitely mine too!
We made plans to make cupcakes but of coz mummy did all the hard work of preparing the ingredients and all I had to do was to be there! haha...

The original recipe was for almond cupcakes but mum tot plain cupcakes will do. but of cos, kapo jane had to suggest something to replace the yucky taste of almonds.. so I rummaged through the fridge and found a few packets of raisins! so I convinced mum that raisin cupcakes would be very tasty!

so first we poured 2 cups of plain flour & a teaspoon of baking powder into a bowl.. and then we put a block of butter, 1.5 cups of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla extract into a separate bowl. According to recipe, we are supposed to beat until light and creamy. well supposed to use a blender or sorts to do it.. but we dun have it.. and so we had to resort to the primitive way of doing it... BY HANDS!

and so the 2 of us ladies took turns to beat and blend and stir and beat again... omg.. it was truly a great arm workout for us!

and when finally it appeared to be kinda light and creamy, we added in 6 eggs, one at a time.. beating well between each addition. and by the time we were done, our tired and flabby arms are about to give way liao...

but the job's not done yet! gotta 'fold' the flour and raisins into the batter and mix until the flour DISAPPEARS! and this is the worst! haha.. so we took turns to beat and fold the flour and stir everything together.. haha... and when we're about done and to start baking, we couldn't find the paper cases! after kicking up a fuss by rummaging thru the kitchen for it, daddy confessed that he threw it away thinking that the paper was yellowish and dirty. haha... and so we punished him by asking him to go and buy more paper cases for us and also to dabao lunch back.. :)

and when dad's finally back home with the paper cases, we started pouring the mixture into them. Mum made 6 and so did I.

Can guess who made which ones? haha... I made those with the little M&Ms placed on top! cute hor...

after about 15-20min in the oven, the cupcakes are finally done! but looking at the final product, I think they look more like bowlcakes to me instead! They're HUGE! nevertheless.. they taste absolutely yummy!

soft and absolutely sweet!!!!

now i'm looking forward to the next baking adventure!

:)

signing off~
