going down memory lane

We happened to drive past my sister's and my primary school today after going to the temple at Ave 6 to pray.. My primary school is Pei Tong Primary School... and to my surprise, it has changed so much!

I know they were undergoing PRIME and rebuilding the school to suit the changing needs of the new generation but my golly! it's now so modern! SO BIG!!!

my memory of the school was the tiny canteen cum hall which we'll always sit at to enjoy our weekly assembly and prize giving ceremonies.. though we always complain about the dirtiness of the floor, but somehow we always seem to not mind the place... the yummy mee rebus and the ice cream stall in the canteen... the unbelieveably small yet ever so crowded bookshop, the seemingly fierce bookshop uncle and auntie.. the small pond in the middle of the 4 classroom blocks.. and also the mosquito-infested dental clinic area. oh how i hated that the smell of the dental clinic.. the smell of the typical dental clinic.. with the shrieking sounds of the machines and whatever equipment that they use the remove the plague.. haha..

most of all, I miss the people there.. the teachers and somehow, I even miss the principal (Mr Tan), vice-principal (Mr Chee)..
Mr Tan and Mr Chee took turns to coach us (the P6 batch) personally after school in the evenings, to prepare us a little more for the PSLE exams..
how many of our present school leaders can actually do that? most of them will juz push everything and all the rest of the work to their teachers! who will be so kind and caring to personally teach the students? Not many I should say. most likely, most definitely not my current school leaders..

I miss their gentleness.. yes they were strict, but never fierce for no reason. I remember Mr Chee's the gentle and kind guy, while Mr Tan is the fierce man. All the boys were scared of him, needless to say, us. But he's always so approachable.. so kind.

I did a web search and though I failed to find the pictures of the old school campus, the image of it will never fade in my mind.. it'll always be my school.. always..

Our uniforms past and present...
but I'm really glad to know that some things never change.. even after 20 years.. they stay the same..

our school crest..
our school motto..

and our school song... and somehow I still remember its tune..

Let us grow in strength and wisdom
With heart and soul we do our best
We know for sure with good system
We will succeed when put to test.

To our school we all give honour
We learn and play in healthy way.
Our country we cherish a - dore
We all pledge to be strong and true.

Take courage friends for we are one
Respect one another honour our elders
Dilligent stead-fast in all that we do
This is the path to a bright future.
